Did you know that apart from the health benefits it gives to the body such as controlling heart rate, preventing eye disease, reducing high blood pressure and the rest, tomatoes are beneficial to the skin? Yes, they are. Rather than going for those expensive beauty products, why not try exploring the benefit of this vegetable?
Tomatoes are great for:
- Shrinking pores
Tomato juice is great at doing this. do you have large pores and have been looking for ways to shrink them? Tomato juice works as an excellent astringent.
- Add four drops of tomato juice to 1 tablespoon of water and apply it on your face with the help of a cotton ball.
- Gently massage your skin with this mixture and leave it on for 15 minutes. Regular application of this will shrink the pore size.
2. Fighting acne
Squish a huge red tomato. Apply it all over your face. Leave for an hour. Wash off, then apply a good moisturiser. Do this regularly and you will notice a reduction in your acne.
3. Removing blackheads
Got blackheads which doesn’t seem to go away after all the creams you have used and are using? Slice a big tomato. Rub on the areas where you have blackheads. Do this from time to time to rid yourself of this annoying phenomenon *winks*
4. Reducing facial oil secretion
Have you got oily skin? Blend together the juice of a tomato and cucumber, and apply it on your face using a cotton ball. This will reduce facial oil secretion, when done regularly.
5. Removing Dead Skin Cells
Tomatoes can greatly help you to remove dead skin cells.
- Grind tomatoes in a mixer with the seeds and add 1 teaspoon of sugar to it.
- Apply it on the face and massage gently in circular motion.

You can also cut 1 tomato into 2 halves and sprinkle some sugar on it. Gently scrub your skin with it to do away with dead skin cells and get a clean and fresh looking skin.
6. Freshening your skin
Dull, irritated or sunburnt skin can be repaired with a curd and tomato face mask. Apply this mixture to your face and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Curd nourishes with protein while tomato cools the skin.
You can also make a cleansing mask
- using olive oil and tomato for your face if you have dry skin. This combination will leave your skin soft and supple.
- using tomato and cucumber if you have oily skin. The natural astringent properties of both soak up the oil and prevent the skin from dehydrating too much.
- using tomato juice and avocado pulp. Your skin is hydrated with the avocado and the tomato does the job of an astringent (if you have combination skin).
