Adunni Ade, the Nollywood actress, has announced the death of her mother after a prolonged illness.
The actress broke the news in an Instagram post on Monday. She shared a photograph of her mother alongside a tribute.
The 50-year-old film star said her mother died on October 18 after a long battle with illness. Ade was born in Queens, New York, to a German-Irish mother and a Yoruba Nigerian father.
“With a heavy heart and submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of my beloved mother, who returned to her Creator on October 18 after a long battle with illness,” she wrote.
Ade also prayed for her mother’s soul and asked Allah to grant her eternal peace. She sought strength for her family as they cope with the loss.
“Ya Allah, forgive her shortcomings, have mercy upon her, make her grave spacious and filled with light, and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus. Grant us sabr and strength as we navigate this painful loss. Ameen,” she said.
The actress also expressed her love for her late mother and prayed for their reunion in the afterlife.
“Mum, I love you. May Allah grant you eternal peace and reunite us in Jannah. Ameen.”
Ade said the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
In October 2019, the actress shared photographs of her mother in a hospital bed. She described her as a strong woman and expressed hope for her recovery.
At the time, Ade said she wanted to celebrate her mother while she was still alive. She also described her as a fighter.
