Following the sacking of former Super Eagles African Cup of Nations winning coach Stephen Keshi. Despite winning the African Cup of Nations, Keshi remained unpopular among the board of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) who often chided him for his arrogance and stubborness.
His dismal performance in the AFCON qualifiers also contributed to mounting pressure calling for his dismissal.Perhaps the final straw was applying to coach the Ivorian National team while still in contractual agreement with the NFF.
Although Amodu Shaibu has been named interim coach, there are strong indications that the situation may not remain the same for long. Former Super Eagles player Sunday Oliseh has been heavily touted as the next coach of the Super Eagles, he is reportedly in negotiations with the NFF.
Chairman of the NFF Technical Committee,Felix Anyansi-Agwu, today confirmed that the NFF is indeed in talks with Sunday Oliseh. In his statement; “An offer has been made, and there is understanding, but we have to work out the final details of the agreement in a few days. Of course, the Executive Board has to give approval for his appointment based on the final terms to be agreed.”
