The former Jigawa state governor, Alhaji. Sule Lamido was today arrested by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of money laundering. The agency also reportedly arrested Sule Lamido’s two sons on related offences.
EFCC confirmed the arrest of the former Governor through its Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren; “I can confirm to you that the former Governor of Jigawa a State, Alhaji Sule Lamido and his two sons are with the commission.”
After years of inactivity, the anti-graft agency seems to have shaken off its slumber with a series of arrests and talks of prosecuting former public officials.
It is speculated that Sule Lamido and his two sons are persons of interest after claims that they diverted public funds into a privately held company.
