World Vitiligo Day is an advocacy and campaign to increase Vitiligo awareness and enlightenment, raise funds for research and empower national vitiligo associations and support groups and is sponsored and administered by the Vitiligo Research Foundation under the guidance of the steering committee which comprises prominent support advocates, activists and vitiligo specialists from all over the world.
There are a lot of people who don’t want you to stand up for your rights and demand a cure. They say vitiligo is not life threatening and not contagious, and you must embrace a life of a pariah, hiding yourself from sunlight and from the society.
Why June 25th is suggested as World Vitiligo Day
June 25 is a significant date in the Vitiligo calendar because it marks the passing date of pop-star Michael Jackson the most famous man that lived with Vitiligo and the most criticized about his Vitiligo. It is a memorial to him for bringing awareness to Vitiligo and for whom he is.
