Yesterday, Australia witnessed a tragic event as the Lindt Cafe in a central business district in Sydney was held at gunpoint by a lone gunman.
The gunman has been identified as Man Haron Monis, an Iranian refugee and a self styled Muslim cleric. Early Monday morning, He entered the Lindt cafe and seized hostages. The siege eventually ended when police stormed into the cafe in the early hours of Tuesday.
Unfortunately, two hostages were killed during the ordeal- manager Tori Johnson, 34 and a lawyer Katrina Dawson, 38.
The gunman Monis, is a man with a long list of criminal activities, including being an accessory to the murder of his ex wife. He was also facing charges for indecent sexual acts as well as assault.
The Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott has paid his respects and offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during this most unfortunate incident.
