Jesús Owono Releases Emotional Statement Following Jesús de Miguel’s Death

Jesús Owono has shared an emotional statement following the death of Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel after their on-field collision. Owono described these as the hardest days of his life, admitting he struggles to process everything after the tragic incident.

The FC Andorra goalkeeper released his first public comments through his club on Wednesday, expressing profound grief over the Spanish striker’s death. His statement came two days after both players collided during Monday’s match between FC Andorra and CD Tenerife in Spain.

De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following the incident and later died in hospital on Tuesday morning, aged thirty. Owono said he found it difficult to find words while trying to understand the tragedy that has deeply affected everyone.

“I feel enormous pain for the loss of Jesús,” the goalkeeper said, while extending his thoughts to De Miguel’s loved ones. He also acknowledged the questions surrounding the incident, promising to face whatever comes with the utmost respect and seriousness.

However, Owono stressed that his immediate thoughts remain with De Miguel, his family, and everyone mourning the footballer’s death. He ended the emotional message with a brief farewell, writing: “Rest in peace, Jesús,” as tributes continued across football.

The statement marks Owono’s first public response since the collision, which brought Monday’s match to a premature and distressing end. Spanish authorities have opened a routine investigation into De Miguel’s death, while both clubs continue to navigate the tragedy.

FC Andorra has also asked the public to show sensitivity and respect towards everyone affected by the heartbreaking incident. Teammate Lautaro Spatz publicly defended Owono, describing him as deeply affected and insisting he would never intentionally hurt anyone.

The goalkeeper also faced abusive messages online after the incident, prompting him to deactivate his Instagram account temporarily. Meanwhile, the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation expressed support for Owono, acknowledging the profound sorrow surrounding the tragic loss.

Jesús Owono’s statement reflects the emotional weight of the tragedy, as the football community continues mourning Jesús de Miguel.
