Laide Bakare dismisses Eniola Badmus’ apology as ‘fake’

Laide Bakare, the Nollywood actress, has rejected Eniola Badmus’ public apology over her reaction to her name during a recent interview, describing it as “fake”.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Bakare shared the two-word response hours after Badmus apologised for her reaction when Isbae U, the interview host, mentioned Bakare among his favourite actresses.

The controversy began after a video from the interview circulated online, showing Badmus appearing to shrug and change her facial expression when the host mentioned Bakare’s name.

Bakare subsequently criticised her colleague, calling her a “nuisance” and accusing her of repeatedly damaging her reputation in public.

“Nuisance ni lady yi sha! Must you always damage my character publicly? Several times I have warned you to stop, but since you have decided to bring me down at all costs, you will surely hear from me,” she wrote on Instagram.

The actress also accused Badmus of ingratitude, claiming she had helped her career.

“See your facial expressions at the mention of your biggest benefactor’s name? Omo ale. That helped you to grow in life. Honestly, you are indeed an ingrate, and I won’t let this slide,” Bakare said.

In her apology, Badmus acknowledged that her reaction during the interview could have appeared dismissive and expressed regret over how it came across.

“On reflection, I realise my reaction when Laide Bakare’s name was mentioned during my recent interview could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise,” she wrote.

She also addressed Bakare directly, expressing a desire to move past their differences.

“Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace, and I genuinely wish you well.

“We’re all growing, learning and becoming better versions of ourselves. Sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward.

“Joo maa binu. No negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns.
