Inter Miami Return to Winning Ways With 2-0 Victory Over New York City FC

Inter Miami returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over New York City FC on Wednesday night in Miami. The result secured consecutive Major League Soccer victories and strengthened Miami’s position ahead of the approaching MLS Cup playoffs this season.

Germán Berterame opened the scoring in the 20th minute after a sharp attacking move involving Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. Inter Miami doubled its advantage during first-half stoppage time when Rodrigo De Paul finished a precise pass from Messi beautifully.

The hosts controlled possession for long stretches, limiting New York City’s chances while searching for additional goals after halftime again. Despite several promising attacks, Miami failed to add a third, with efforts from Rodrigo De Paul and substitutes striking woodwork.

New York City pushed late and earned a stoppage-time penalty, offering a final opportunity to reduce the deficit against Miami. Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair saved Nicolás Fernández’s penalty, preserving the clean sheet and ensuring Inter Miami collected all three points.

The victory also helped Inter Miami secure qualification for the 2026 MLS Cup playoffs with six regular-season games still remaining. Messi did not score, but his contribution proved decisive, as he supplied the assist for De Paul’s important first-half finish.

The team’s recent form offers encouragement as the regular season enters its closing stretch and playoff expectations continue growing quickly.
