Nollywood actress Wunmi Toriola has criticised Desola Afod, the former wife of actor Kunle Afod, over her remarks about theatre practitioners, describing them as insulting and urging her to address anyone she has issues with directly.
In a video response to Desola’s comments, Toriola said she found her general statements about theatre practitioners disrespectful, adding that she would not tolerate anyone disparaging the profession.
“Just saying theatre practitioners, I find it very insulting and disrespectful. If you have any issues with anybody, Desola Aford, kindly put their names or pictures in your videos or mention them directly.
“That is a body that covers what I earn from. I would not allow you to just use your mouth to disrespect it.”
The actress further urged Desola to stop making broad statements about the profession and instead identify those she believed had wronged her.
“If you have issues with anybody, please call them out. Stop saying I won’t need theatre. It’s a total disrespect.”
Toriola also recalled a previous disagreement involving one of her colleagues, during which Desola had intervened. She said she chose not to respond at the time because she did not want to disrespect Desola’s then-husband, Kunle Afod.
The actress also advised Desola to consider dropping her former husband’s surname if she believed it contributed to the disrespect she claimed to experience.
“And if you think that name, Aford, is what is causing you problems or see finish, you can change it. You can bear your father’s name.”
