Elon Musk spent $276 million supporting Republicans since July, making him a major financial force in America’s 2026 midterm elections. Campaign finance reports show Musk contributed roughly $366 million this election cycle, including donations to Republican-aligned political groups and committees.
The spending aims to help Republicans retain control of Congress as candidates prepare for House and Senate races this November. One major contribution, $158 million, went to the Senate Leadership Fund, which supports Republican candidates seeking Senate seats nationwide.
Another $76 million went to America PAC, the action committee Musk founded, which is organizing voter outreach and turnout efforts. His contributions included $20 million for the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports Republican candidates during this year’s midterm election campaigns.
Additionally, Musk gave $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which supports Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton’s campaign nationwide. These donations place Musk among the most influential individual political donors this election cycle, according to recent campaign finance reporting.
His spending marks a return after he previously indicated publicly plans to reduce political contributions following his earlier election involvement. Republicans hope the funding will strengthen advertising, voter outreach, and campaign operations as they defend their congressional majorities this fall.
Democrats have criticized the enormous spending and raised concerns about Musk’s business interests and influence over federal policy decisions nationwide. Some Democratic lawmakers have called for scrutiny of Musk’s government contracts and connections to SpaceX, the aerospace company he leads.
Control of Congress can shape investigations, legislation, government spending, and oversight of the Trump administration, making these races consequential today. Musk’s financial support may help Republican campaigns, although donations alone cannot guarantee victories in closely contested races across America nationally.
As Election Day approaches, voters will decide whether Republicans can maintain congressional power amid economic and political uncertainty in November.
