Taiwo Awoniyi has graduated with merit from the PFA Business School, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship. The Coventry City and Super Eagles striker announced the qualification online, calling graduation another proud moment away from football personally
.Awoniyi, 29, completed the programme while continuing his professional career after joining Coventry City from Nottingham Forest during last August. The permanent transfer reportedly cost Coventry around £9 million, ending Awoniyi’s four-year spell at Forest after 103 appearances across competitions.
During his Forest career, the Nigerian striker scored 23 goals and provided six assists across 103 competitive appearances for them. His academic journey includes a Business Administration and Marketing Management diploma from the London School of International Business, completed in 2020.
Two years later, Awoniyi completed a Business Management degree at Buckinghamshire New University, adding another qualification to his academic record. Education has remained important to Taiwo Awoniyi because of a childhood promise he made to his father while growing up.
He explained that his father expected him to continue studying if football became his career, making education part of journey. That commitment has continued alongside professional football, with Awoniyi using the PFA programme to develop knowledge beyond his playing career.
The PFA Business School offers programmes designed to help football professionals develop skills for leadership, management and careers beyond playing. Awoniyi’s Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship provides knowledge relevant to sporting administration and leadership within the football industry.
His latest achievement follows a difficult start at Coventry, where he received a red card against Brighton during league action. Despite that setback, Awoniyi continues building his career on the pitch while preparing himself for opportunities within football after playing.
