The 39-year-old singer spoke about the incident during an appearance on One54 Africa. He said he reported the post to the authorities as soon as he saw it.
Gold said he can tolerate criticism about him but draws the line when people involve his family.
“So somebody had put out fake news about my family losing our daughter, and I can’t take anything; you can talk about me all day, I’m cool,” he said.
“I signed up for this, not my daughter. So when I saw the news, obviously, I did the right thing… I reported to the authorities.
“They took it to court, and the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment, or he should pay a fine.
“The whole internet went crazy. I did the right thing. I didn’t even do what other people would do. You know: find the boy, beat him up. I just went through the right channel, and he was dealt with.”
The case involved Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, an X user popularly known as Swanky 001.
Adeyeye had shared a photo of a candle on X with the caption: “My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. RIP to Deja”.
On May 14, social media influencer Pamilerin Adegoke disclosed that Adeyeye had pleaded guilty to cyberbullying and defamation charges. The court then sentenced him to two years in prison.
Adeyeye regained his freedom in June.
Gold said social media presented the matter differently from what happened but maintained that he chose to follow the legal process instead of taking matters into his own hands.
