Falconets Thrash New Caledonia 10-1 to Reach FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Round of 16

The Falconets’ 10-1 win over New Caledonia sent Nigeria into the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Ramotalahi Kareem opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Rebecca Adegbemile quickly doubled Nigeria’s advantage.

Seimeyeha Akekoromowei added another goal, while Kareem struck again before halftime for a commanding 4-0 lead. After the break, Winner David joined the scoring spree and eventually completed a hat-trick for Nigeria.

Kareem also completed her hat-trick, while Adegbemile added another goal to strengthen Nigeria’s dominant performance. Tosin Rafiu completed Nigeria’s scoring, while Joceline Kourevi grabbed New Caledonia’s consolation goal late in the match.

The victory gave Nigeria four points from three matches and secured second place in Group F. Spain topped the group with nine points after beating China 3-1 in their final fixture.

China also finished with four points but missed qualification because Nigeria held the better goal difference. Earlier, the Falconets lost 2-0 against Spain before earning a goalless draw against China.

The 10-1 victory transformed Nigeria’s tournament campaign after a difficult opening two matches. The Falconets now face England in the Round of 16, with another major challenge awaiting Moses Aduku’s team.

Nigeria have reached the final twice but have never lifted the U-20 Women’s World Cup trophy. This victory gives the young Nigerians renewed confidence as they enter the knockout phase.

Meanwhile, New Caledonia ended their historic debut without a point after three consecutive defeats. For Nigeria, the Falconets’ 10-1 win over New Caledonia represents a powerful response before the knockout rounds.
