Nigerian dancer Poco Lee has maintained his innocence over the rape allegations against him in the United Kingdom. He said he did not commit the sexual offences for which he is facing charges.
In August, Snaresbrook Crown Court in the UK confirmed to TheCable Lifestyle that Poco Lee, whose real name is Iweh Pascal Odinaka, faces charges of attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
James Baker, the court’s admin team lead, said the case was scheduled for plea and trial preparation on September 15.
Last Friday, social media reports claimed that Poco Lee had been released from a UK prison. The reports also suggested that the complainant had withdrawn the case or reached an out-of-court settlement.
Social media influencer Pamilerin Adegoke said Poco Lee had regained his freedom after weeks in custody. Social media personality VeryDarkMan also confirmed during an Instagram live session on Sunday that the dancer was no longer in detention.
Poco Lee denies allegations
Poco Lee did not directly confirm his release during the session. He, however, addressed the allegations and maintained that he did not commit the sexual offence.
“I feel like they want me to be like I am posting something. You know, as Nigeria is. They want to see another thing. It is when you are now paying attention that raises another thing,” he spoke in pidgin English.
The dancer said his main concern during his time in custody was the impact on his associates, including Jago.
“I was just being myself. My only worry out there was my people, like Jago. He could not do anything business-wise or on social media. I am not a small child to start begging them. They would even frown at such an apology.
“If I did what someone said I did, I would say I am suffering my sins. As I did not do anything, my mind is as pure as anything. No one would want to attach themselves to something like that. And for Burna Boy and Jago to stand for me.
“I am a jolly good fellow. Even when I did not do anything.”
Last week, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that the sexual offence case involving Poco Lee remains active. The dancer is due to appear in court on September 15.
