King Charles III has confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will remain non-working royals despite their planned return to the United Kingdom.
The Lord Chamberlain, a senior official in the royal household, signed the statement confirming the couple’s status.

Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced plans last month to return to the UK after six years in the United States.
The couple moved to California in March 2020. They stepped down from royal duties earlier that year.
The Sussexes relocated to a private, non-royal home outside London in August. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, are also expected to start at a British school in September.
King Charles has welcomed the chance to see the Sussex family more often. However, he has accepted that Harry and Meghan will remain private individuals.
The couple will not resume their official working roles within the royal family for now.

Harry and Meghan will also continue to forgo their royal titles. They gave up the titles in 2020.
The King’s Chamberlain also stressed that the couple will act in their own capacity. This will include their charity work.
“To help avoid doubt or confusion, The King has directed that (this) information be shared,” the statement reads.
The information has also gone to senior government and military officials. Lord lieutenants, who serve as the king’s representatives across the country, received the information as well.
Harry and Meghan will retain their homes in Montecito, California, and Portugal. Meghan will also continue to run her lifestyle brand.

The latest development comes months after the Sussex family reunited with King Charles at his private home in Gloucestershire.
The family gathered for a “private family occasion”.
It marked the first time the monarch had seen Archie and Lilibet in person in more than four years.
