The WNBA Finals logo has been unveiled ahead of the 2026 playoffs, honoring the championship stage and celebrating league history. The new design arrives on August 30, exactly 29 years after the league played its inaugural championship game.
On August 30, 1997, the Houston Comets defeated the New York Liberty 65-51 in the WNBA’s first championship game. That historic victory made Houston the league’s first champion, establishing a tradition that continues through today’s expanding women’s basketball landscape.
The redesigned WNBA Finals logo features the league’s iconic Logowoman alongside custom lettering representing the speed and intensity of championship basketball. A dual-tone championship trophy also appears prominently, symbolizing the ultimate prize pursued by every team throughout each WNBA season.
The league described the new identity as timeless, connecting today’s championship stage with the history established during its inaugural season. Meanwhile, the redesign arrives during the WNBA’s 30th season, which features expanded competition and increased attention surrounding women’s basketball. The 2026 campaign includes fifteen teams following the additions of the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo to the league.
WNBA Finals branding now reflects that growth while maintaining a visual connection between the league’s pioneering beginnings and its future ambitions. As postseason competition approaches, teams will compete for the championship while carrying forward nearly three decades of WNBA history.
The WNBA Finals logo introduces a fresh championship identity while celebrating the historic foundation established by those pioneering teams.
