Ryan Gosling Flintstones movie is in early development at Warner Bros., with the live-action project reportedly centered on a grown-up Bamm-Bamm Rubble. Gosling is developing the project alongside producer Jessie Henderson through their production company, Open Invite.
The studio is currently looking for a writer, while plot details remain under wraps. The reported concept would move the story beyond Bamm-Bamm’s familiar childhood years and explore the character as an adult. In the original animated series, Bamm-Bamm appeared as the adopted son of Barney and Betty Rubble.
The character previously grew older in The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, which portrayed him as a teenager attending Bedrock High School and dating Pebbles Flintstone. Meanwhile, this would mark another return to live-action for the beloved Hanna-Barbera franchise after two previous theatrical movies.
The 1994 The Flintstones starred John Goodman as Fred Flintstone, Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble and Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma Flintstone. The movie earned roughly $340 million worldwide. Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, arrived in 2000 with a different cast and continued the franchise’s live-action experiment.
Warner Bros. already has another Flintstones movie in development, but that project differs from Gosling’s live-action concept. Meet the Flintstones is an animated Warner Bros. Pictures Animation project intended as an origin story for the classic Stone Age family.
The Gosling project gives Warner Bros. opportunity to revisit Bedrock while approaching the franchise through a mature character. However, Gosling has not been confirmed to play Bamm-Bamm, despite speculation surrounding his involvement with the project.
For now, the Ryan Gosling Flintstones movie remains in early development, with no confirmed release date or additional cast announced. Gosling’s involvement nevertheless adds significant star power to the project, following his recent success with Project Hail Mary.
If the project moves forward, audiences could soon see one of animation’s most recognizable families return to the big screen.
