“I’d love to run, but the law is very strong,” Trump said while responding to questions about his political future. The president added that people frequently ask him to consider another campaign, suggesting widespread support for another presidential bid exists. “Everybody wants me to do it, but the law is very strong,” Trump said, emphasizing the legal obstacle.
Trump’s comments have renewed conversations about a possible third presidential term, although the US Constitution currently limits presidents. The 22nd Amendment states that nobody can win election to the presidency more than twice under the Constitution.
Trump already won presidential elections in 2016 and 2024, meaning another successful election would face constitutional restrictions under existing law. His latest remarks therefore acknowledge his personal desire to run while recognizing the strength of the legal barrier surrounding another campaign.
