UFC Freedom 250, the mixed martial arts event held at the White House to celebrate U.S. President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday, cost parent company TKO Group about $30 million despite attracting millions of viewers.
The June 14 event drew global attention and delivered strong exposure for the UFC brand. However, the company spent heavily on staging the event and did not generate ticket revenue.
High Costs and No Ticket Sales
During TKO’s second-quarter 2026 earnings call, executive chairman and CEO Ari Emanuel praised the event’s impact.
“TKO’s unique ability to deliver one-on-one live events and experiences was front and centre in the second quarter. Nothing illustrates this better than UFC Freedom 250 held in June,” Emanuel said.
He added, “This event was a roaring success for our company, the UFC brand and the sport of mixed martial arts, exposure, earned media, audience expansion and a weekend-long fan experience.”
Despite the positive publicity, TKO Chief Financial Officer Andrew Schleimer said the event carried unusually high costs.
“We incurred significantly higher-than-normal costs, which we partially offset with sold-out global partnerships inventory. As a reminder, we did not sell tickets and therefore did not record any live events revenue. Given the event’s financial profile, which, as anticipated, resulted in approximately a $30 million loss, our margins at UFC as well as on a consolidated basis were meaningfully impacted,” Schleimer said.
Record Audience for Paramount+
The event still achieved a major audience milestone.
According to TKO, UFC Freedom 250 averaged 8.2 million viewers across the United States and Latin America on Paramount+. The figure made it the streaming platform’s biggest live exclusive event to date.
The fight card featured seven bouts. Each fight ended by knockout or technical knockout, a first in UFC history.
The White House described UFC Freedom 250 as “a once-in-a-generation celebration of the American fighting spirit.”
Long-Term Business Benefits
Although the event produced a loss, TKO reported strong financial results for the quarter. The company exceeded analyst expectations and increased its full-year revenue and earnings forecasts.
Schleimer said the White House event affected company margins.
“We would have seen significantly higher total company margin expansion,” he said.
He also pointed to new business opportunities created by the event.
“In the days leading up to UFC Freedom 250, we met with dozens of existing and new contacts in Washington, D.C., a clear example of how our access and the attractiveness of our events can translate into opportunity,” Schleimer said
