Dettol Original 12hrs Protection Challenge has officially opened for entries, giving Nigerians an opportunity to promote everyday hygiene through storytelling. Nigeria’s leading hygiene brand, Dettol, launched the nationwide competition to encourage consistent hygiene habits while rewarding participants with exciting prizes.
Running from July 13 to August 15, the challenge invites Nigerians to create and share a 60-second Instagram video. Each entry must feature a bar of Dettol Original Soap while telling a personal Dettol story. Twenty-five participants will win exciting prizes through the competition. Interested consumers can find additional details on Dettol’s official Instagram page.
Through this initiative, Dettol aims to highlight real experiences connecting generations of Nigerians with the trusted hygiene brand. The campaign also encourages meaningful conversations about everyday protection, hygiene, and family wellbeing across communities nationwide.
Speaking about the challenge, Boma Harrison, Marketing Director, Reckitt West Africa, emphasized the importance of consistent hygiene practices for Nigerians every day. “Every day, Nigerians are exposed to germs as they commute, work, attend school and carry out their daily activities. The ’12 Hour Protective Shield’ campaign reminds and encourages people to make hygiene a consistent part of their everyday routines. With regular use, Dettol Original supports the skin’s natural germ fighters for 12 hours. We want Nigerians to go about their daily routines with confidence, knowing they are protected every step of the way,” Harrison said.
The Dettol Original 12hrs Protection Challenge builds on the broader “12 Hour Protective Shield” campaign promoting Dettol Original Antibacterial Bar Soap. The soap provides a protective shield that supports the skin’s natural germ fighters for up to twelve hours.
According to the World Health Organization, proper hygiene reduces diarrheal diseases by up to 30 percent and acute respiratory infections by up to 17 percent. These findings reinforce the importance of consistent hygiene in preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
The campaign also arrives during Nigeria’s rainy season, which has already caused severe flooding across Lagos and several other states. Health experts continue warning that contaminated floodwater increases the risks of cholera, typhoid, and other waterborne diseases. Against this backdrop, Dettol Original Soap offers additional relevance for Nigerians navigating seasonal health challenges.
For decades, Dettol has championed hygiene education while encouraging habits that help prevent the spread of germs across households. Through the “12 Hour Protective Shield” campaign, the brand celebrates its longstanding connection with Nigerian families while inspiring healthier routines for future generations.
