Awele Elumelu says Beyoncé collaboration highlights Africa’s global potential

Awele Elumelu, chairperson of Avon Medical Practice Limited, says Beyoncé’s collaboration with African music stars Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade demonstrates that Africa is home to hidden gems capable of competing on the global stage.

Speaking at an event for young entrepreneurs, Elumelu said the inclusion of the African artists on Beyoncé’s album was a proud moment that showcased the continent’s immense talent and potential.

Recalling her family’s excitement when the album was released, she said the achievement was proof that African entrepreneurs and creatives can excel when given the right opportunities.

“Our own homegrown African talent, sharing the stage with the biggest pop star in the world, is an amazing testament to the immense potential of African entrepreneurs individually and as a collective,” she said.

Elumelu noted that the success recorded in Africa’s music industry reflects what is possible across other sectors of the economy. She argued that industries such as agriculture, information and communications technology (ICT), fashion and healthcare possess the same level of excellence and can thrive globally with adequate support, resources and an enabling environment.

She encouraged young Africans to believe in their abilities and work diligently towards achieving success, stressing that they have a responsibility to contribute positively to their families, communities and the continent.

According to her, resilience, discipline and consistency remain essential qualities for anyone seeking to achieve long-term success.

“Young Africans, there is excellence in you. You owe it to yourselves, your families, your communities and Africa to put in the hard work, build resilience and keep at it until you succeed. The world awaits you,” she added.
