A resurfaced interview has reignited conversations online after content creator and comedian Kiekie named fellow skit maker Mr Macaroni as the comedian she does not find funny, saying his comedy has never made her laugh.
The clip, taken from a six-month-old interview on Ify’s Kitchen on YouTube, has attracted fresh attention as social media users revisit her candid remarks about colleagues in Nigeria’s comedy industry.
During the interview, Kiekie was asked to identify a skit maker she does not find funny. She responded without much hesitation, saying, “He’s not funny to me o, I’ve never laughed at any of his…”
The interviewer quickly interrupted and suggested that Kiekie may have answered so quickly because she and Mr Macaroni are friends and know each other well.
When encouraged to be more direct, Kiekie softened her stance by stressing that comedy is subjective. She noted that just as she does not find everyone funny, she is also aware that some people may not find her funny.
The comments surprised many viewers because Kiekie and Mr Macaroni have previously collaborated on The Housemaids, a skit series that also featured actress Bimbo Ademoye. The series enjoyed a positive reception and ran across several episodes, making her remarks unexpected to some fans.
Elsewhere in the interview, Kiekie explained why she avoids working with certain content creators, saying brand alignment plays a major role in her decisions.
“I would never collaborate with any skit maker that is too vulgar,” she said. “If there’s too much breasts, bumbum, not that I have a problem with it, but it’s just brand alignment.”
She also emphasised that choosing not to collaborate with someone does not mean she disrespects their work.
“My inability to collaborate with you doesn’t mean that I look down on what you do, or I don’t respect what you do, or I don’t see your hard work. I recognise your hard work, but we just don’t align,” she said.
When asked to name a creator who fits that category, Kiekie declined to mention anyone.
