BNXN says NBA stars are wealthier than Nigerian artists, reveals album plans

Afrobeats singer BNXN has claimed that NBA players earn far more than Nigerian musicians. He said his friendships with players in the basketball league have shown him the wide gap in earnings. The singer also revealed plans for his next album.

BNXN made the comments during a recent six-hour livestream with streamer Ojo. They discussed money in sports and music. They also talked about the singer’s future projects.

According to BNXN, NBA players, apart from footballers, earn much more than most musicians, including Nigerian artists.

“I am friends with a few NBA players. These guys have so much money. Nigerian artists don’t even have as much money as them,” he said.

He did not name the NBA players he was referring to. He also did not explain how he made the comparison.

New album to be recorded abroad

BNXN also shared details of his next album. He said he plans to record the project in Ghana and Barbados.

“I have a camp coming up in like a few months. It’s kind of how I want to record my album. I want to do it in two countries, mainly Ghana and Barbados. I’m choosing Barbados because it’s visa-free,” he said.

He did not announce a release date. He also did not reveal more details about the project.

Career and latest album

Born Daniel Etiese Benson, BNXN is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He was known as Buju before changing his stage name to BNXN in 2022. The change helped avoid confusion with Jamaican reggae artist Buju Banton.

He rose to fame with songs such as Finesse, a collaboration with Pheelz, and Lenu featuring Burna Boy.

BNXN released his second studio album, Captain, on July 3, 2025. The 16-track project featured Seyi Vibez, Rema, Victony and FOLA. It reached number two on the Apple Music Nigeria Album chart before its release.
