Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez will lead the voice cast of “Not Alone,” a new animated alien adventure from Illumination, the studio behind the “Despicable Me” and “Minions” franchises.
Illumination announced the project at the Annecy Animation Festival. The film marks Chalamet’s animation debut. He will voice Joe, an “introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone.” Gomez will play Fran, a “brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fueled rocket.”
The film follows Joe and Fran as they prepare for a groundbreaking space mission. According to the synopsis, “When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance.”
Their plans change when three aliens arrive at Joe’s home. The synopsis states: “Life becomes more complicated when three tiny, unruly and adorable take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous yet inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.”
Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou will voice the alien trio. Brett Goldstein will play Officer Zandro. Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris also feature in the cast.
Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val will co-direct the film. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri will produce the project.
“Not Alone” will open in theatres on April 16, 2027.
