The Headies Awards will hold its 18th edition in Toronto, Canada, this October. Organisers say the move will help the awards reach more fans across the world.
The organisers announced the decision during the Headies’ Big Announcement event at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on June 15, 2026.
Headies founder Ayo Animashaun said the awards will return to the international stage after Nigeria hosted the 17th edition. The event had earlier held two editions in Atlanta, United States.
Animashaun explained that Toronto will host the ceremony because it supports the Headies’ goal of expanding its global presence. He added that the move will also strengthen ties with the African diaspora and the international music community.
The decision marks another step in the growth of the awards. The Headies started as a Nigerian platform that celebrated music excellence. Today, it stands as a globally recognised platform for African talent.
Over the years, the awards have helped promote African music to wider audiences. They have also honoured many artists for their contributions to the industry.
