Netflix has unveiled the first look at Scooby-Doo, the famous mystery-solving Great Dane, ahead of the release of its live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins in 2027.
The series is filming in Atlanta. It stars Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, Tanner Hagen as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake. Netflix first shared images of the cast in April.
The upcoming show offers a modern take on the classic cartoon franchise. It follows the origins of Mystery Inc. and the events that bring the group together.
The official logline states: “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy (Hagen) and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.”
It continues: “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma (Fortson), and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy (Jenkins), they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Paul Walter Hauser will also appear in the series, although Netflix has not revealed details about his role.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg wrote the series and serve as showrunners. They also executive produce the project alongside André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson under the Midnight Radio banner.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh Redman executive produce through Berlanti Productions. Toby Haynes directs and executive-produces the first episode.
Warner Bros. Television produces the series. Berlanti Productions currently has an overall deal with the studio.
