Portable Says He Has Helped More Artists Than Davido and Don Jazzy

Nigerian street pop star Portable has once again stirred conversation across social media after boldly claiming that he has contributed more to the rise of upcoming artists than industry giants such as Davido, Don Jazzy, and several other well known music leaders.

The singer made the statement during a livestream on Instagram, where he highlighted the artists he has introduced to the spotlight through features, shoutouts, and opportunities to perform with him. Portable described himself as someone who consistently gives young talent a platform without waiting for industry validation or financial return.

According to him, many artists who are now doing well began their journey around him. He said he has opened the door for numerous aspiring singers from the community level to the national stage. Portable insisted that his support system is practical, direct and not influenced by fame or public relations goals.

His statement quickly made waves online, with fans and critics offering mixed reactions. Some supporters agreed that Portable has consistently showcased upcoming talent in his videos and performances. Others, however, argued that while he has helped, comparing his contribution to that of Davido and Don Jazzy might be excessive, given the established track record of those music icons.

Portable Explains Why He Helps Upcoming Talent

On X (formerly Twitter), reactions ranged from amusement to sharp debate. Some users noted that Portable often spotlights grassroots talent, something they say deserves credit. Screenshots of young artists who featured on his early viral videos resurfaced as examples.

However, another group argued that the legacies of Davido and Don Jazzy speak for themselves. Many pointed out Davidoโ€™s long history of collaborations with rising artists and his reputation for mentorship. Others mentioned Don Jazzyโ€™s track record of discovering and building stars like Rema, Ayra Starr, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Tiwa Savage under Mavin Records.

Despite the arguments, most people agreed that Portable has indeed helped many upcoming singers, especially those with little access to mainstream structures. What made the conversation trend was the confidence with which he placed himself ahead of the biggest names in the industry.

Fans also highlighted Portableโ€™s unpredictable personality and how his outspoken nature often leads to viral conversations. Several users joked that Nigerian entertainment would be less lively without his frequent declarations.

During his livestream, Portable explained that he sees himself as someone who never forgets his roots. He said the struggles he faced before gaining recognition motivate him to help others find their voice. He added that many artists approach him with nothing but talent and courage, and he believes they deserve a chance.

He also said that he does not need industry endorsement to continue giving opportunities to young musicians. According to him, real growth in the music industry begins at the grassroots level, which he believes he has consistently supported.

Portable shared that while he may not have the financial influence of superstars like Davido or the industry structure of Don Jazzy, his impact is seen in the streets and among young creators who look up to him for exposure.
