A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Uguamaye, who recently faced criticism for criticising the Nigerian government has received support from social media activist Martis Otse, also known as Verydarkman.
After recording a video criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration and complaining about the rising cost of products, the corps member, who is presently serving in Lagos, went viral.
Ushie Uguamaye claimed to have received calls shortly after from a NYSC official telling her to remove the video or face repercussions.
Verydarkman responded by expressing his support on social media and claiming that the corps member had done nothing wrong.
In response to the threats directed at the corps member, VDM condemned the actions against her and vowed to provide assistance.

VDM emphasized the importance of freedom of expression and criticized any attempts to suppress such voices.
VDM has been an outspoken critic of government policies. Previously, he challenged the federal government’s claim of selling 50kg bags of rice at โฆ40,000, asserting that market prices exceeded โฆ70,000. He also questioned reports about increasing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allowance to โฆ77,000, noting that corps members continued to receive โฆ33,000.
The situation underscores ongoing discussions about economic challenges in Nigeria and the role of citizens and activists in holding the government accountable.
However, he promised that nothing would happen to her and that if she had trouble finding work because she might be blacklisted, he would assist her get a job.

โI donโt even know why you are going for the NYSC. At the end of the day no work. Instead of you to spend that time working or learn a skill. Everything the girl said in the video was all true. Weโve all turned cowards. See the price of everything. They carried this country and scattered everything. This girl, they have blacklisted you like this, you wonโt get a job. But donโt worry. If the going gets tough, and you try the private sector and they donโt employ you, come, we go find work give you,โ he said in part.
