“I’m a Feminist, but I Don’t Support a Woman Disrespecting Her Husband” – Funke Akindele Says

Nollywood filmmaker and realtor, Funke Akindele also known as Jenifa recently trended after a clip of her sharing her thoughts about Feminism and why men should respect and treat women properly.

In the viral clip, Funke Akindele was heard declaring herself as a feminist. She noted that she’s a feminist but does not support a woman disrespecting her husband.

She further noted that she strongly rejects the idea that a woman’s place is in the kitchen. Funke Akindele also noted that she believes that women can do anything.

But while saying this, Funke Akindele noted that women should also not use the idea of being a feminist negatively by disrespecting their husbands rather, women should also do what is right.

Men must respect women and their economic power

The actress also touched on gender disparity. She noted that she doesn’t believe that women are lesser or the weaker gender in comparison to men.

Funke Akindele further noted that men are supposed to treat women special and not less. In the clip, Kamo State was heard egging Funke Akindele on, indicating his support for everything his senior colleague said.

Reactions as Funke Akindele declares self as a feminist

@valeriepeachie:
“True feminists make the best wives, friends, sisters, and partners because they believe in fairness, respect, and empowerment for all.—feminism uplifts and it doesn’t tear down. I don’t understand the misconception about feminism and why quite a lot of Nigeria men are against it. Is it that you want to oppress women?”

@iretiolu_wa:
“Feminism has never been about disrespecting men.”

@oluwagbemigaaa:
“She’s right, Feminism is about supporting women’s equality. NG Twitter definition is different though. Google is free.”

@ms_leemart:
“Feminism doesn’t equal hating/disrespecting your spouse. Only God knows where that narrative started from.”

@midonations:
“Real feminist! What most Nigerian feminists practice is misandrist. Real feminism is supporting women. Helping a girl child grow and making sure women are not denied their rights.”

@_vinnawills:
“Feminists don’t even support women disrespecting men, it’s only the witches in disguise that has turned feminism to something else.”

@_hassanah:
“Even real feminists don’t support violence against men. Feminism is not what some of these girls are doing.”

@omgitsbest:
“The husband also shouldn’t disrespect his wife. Respect is Mutual.”

@aquamarine_heaven:
“Feminism has nothing to do with disrespect. The way feminism is being interpreted in this part of the world is sickening.”

@scentss_by_ima:
“Who is that interpreter in the background? He is getting on my nerves. Allow our Jenny to talk na.”

@homeappliancesnaijabackup:
“That’s what feminism is all about. It’s not even about disliking men at all… You can be a feminist and still love, respect and support your husband. Any other thing is far from feminism.”
