Manchester United will not be activating the €20 million buy-option clause for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. However, Romano adds that the Red Devils are still interested in the Moroccan international and are open to discussing alternative transfer terms with his current club, ACF Fiorentina.
Amrabat spent last season on loan at Old Trafford after impressing with Morocco at the 2022 World Cup. While the 27-year-old featured in 30 matches across all competitions, his contributions were largely limited defensively, failing to register a single goal or assist.
“Manchester United have informed Fiorentina that they will not trigger the €20m buy option clause for Sofyan Amrabat,” Romano wrote. ” We’ve been told Man United remains interested in Amrabat and are willing to discuss different conditions, as Erik ten Hag likes him. There’s interest also from other clubs.”
This news comes as somewhat of a surprise, with United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly being a fan of Amrabat’s work ethic and defensive presence. However, the lack of attacking output and the hefty buy-option price appear to have dissuaded the club from making the move permanent at this stage.
The report also suggests that Amrabat still holds some appeal for United, and they may be willing to negotiate a lower transfer fee with Fiorentina. However, with interest from other clubs circling, the Moroccan midfielder may have other options to consider.
