Chelsea have secured the future of their left-back position with the signing of exciting American youngster Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United.
The 19-year-old defender, a rising star in the US national team set-up, has penned a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with the option for a further year.
Wiley, who progressed through the Atlanta United academy after joining at the tender age of 11, wasted little time making his mark in senior football. His debut season in 2022 saw him not only solidify a starting spot but also etch his name on the scoresheet in a memorable 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City.
The marauding left-back went on to rack up over 60 appearances for Atlanta United, his attacking flair and defensive solidity attracting the attention of USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter.
Wiley earned his first international cap in October 2023 against Mexico and is currently part of the US squad preparing to take on the world in the 2024 Olympic Games.
This latest acquisition adds to Chelsea’s busy summer transfer window, with manager Enzo Maresca keen to bolster his squad. With a reputation for nurturing young talent, the Blues boss will be hoping to help Wiley seamlessly adapt to the Premier League’s intensity.
Wiley joins a Chelsea side looking to strengthen their defensive options and compete for major trophies. He brings with him a wealth of experience despite his young age and will be hoping to impress in the Premier League.
