Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have dipped another spot in the latest FIFA World Rankings, landing at 39th place for July.
This comes after a significant drop from 30th to 38th in June due to underwhelming performances in World Cup qualifiers.
While the team maintained their total points (1,498.93) from June, a surge of international activity pushed them down the rankings. With three continental tournaments and over 125 friendlies played globally in June and July, the football landscape shifted considerably.
Despite the global decline, the Super Eagles held onto their 5th position in Africa. They remain behind continental powerhouses like Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Côte d’Ivoire.
This ranking serves as a wake-up call for the Super Eagles. With crucial World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, the team will need to find a winning formula to climb back up the rankings and secure their place in the global showpiece.
