Ghanaian rapper and music executive, Sarkodie has finally addressed the ongoing rap battle between Nigerian and Ghanaian rappers.
The rapper had some things to say when he sat for an interview with Vox Africa in a video released on May 19, 2024, on their official Instagram page.
When Sarkodie was asked about his stance on the ongoing diss tracks spree between Nigerian rappers and their Ghanaian counterparts, he said “It’s quite funny and I don’t know what’s happening but I love it because it’s great PR, you can’t even pay for this”.
“Wiz, David, and Burna would never think I want to jab them. If I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers. I was just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there. Who else is best to use as reference? Everybody knows Wizkid, everybody knows Burna Boy”, he continued.
In case you missed it, let us give you a background story on how the rap battle started.
Sarkodie in his newly released single titled ‘Brag’ mentioned some big names in the Nigerian music industry.
There is a line in the song that says “Wizkid came I was already doing it, Davido started when I was improving it, and then Odogwu (Burna Boy) came through”.
The particular line from the song, however, infuriated Nigerian rappers, who then chose to diss Sarkodie, believing the Ghanaian was demeaning Nigeria’s “Big 3.”
The first Nigerian rapper to mount the Sarkodie-diss stage was DMW rapper, Dremo. However, he quickly got a response from a Ghanaian rapper called Lyrical Joe.
The rap battle, however, continued when Nigerian rapper, Chinko Ekun joined Dremo to release a diss track aimed at Sarkodie.
