Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially notified the State House of Assembly of the conclusion of his vacation and consequent resumption of duty.
The notification was contained in a letter forwarded to the House by the governor.
The letter was read at yesterday’s plenary by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.
Makinde said that in line with the provision of Section 190 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, the letter was meant to officially inform the House of the conclusion of his vacation and his resumption of duty.
MEANWHILE, a group of sub-contractors in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, yesterday, urged Makinde to urgently intervene by directing whoever is concerned to pay them the money for the materials they supplied for reconstruction, rehabilitation, and renovation of Agbowo Shopping Complex, opposite the University of Ibadan (UI).
The sub-contractors made their grouses known during a peaceful protest at the main entrance of the complex.
In a petition, they passionately appealed to the governor to compel the contractor, Toyin Owonubi, to pay their money.
They alleged that some of the materials, which they supplied and were yet to receive payment for, had been sold without their consent.
Several calls made to Owonubi were not picked up.
However, when a call was made to Olalekan Banjo, who was listed in the petition as project legal, said that he was also looking for Owonubi like the protesters.
The state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, said that the government did not engage the suppliers and therefore cannot intervene now.
He said: “Now that it has gone to the public, the government will take appropriate steps.”
In another development, the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANT) has warned the Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) to desist from activities that can cause problems among traders in Oyo State and the South-West region of Nigeria.
The association gave the warning in a statement signed by its South-West Secretary, Abiodun Adegoke.
Also, a bill to upgrade Emmanuel Alayande College of Education in Oyo to a degree-awarding university has scaled the first reading on the floor of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The bill, titled “Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo Law, 2022” forwarded by the Executive Arm of Government was read for the first time yesterday.
The law is to make provision for the establishment, constitution, and functions of the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education at Oyo and for other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.
