American rapper Jay Z made history on Thursday, 15th June by becoming the first hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.
The Award was created to celebrate a songwriter-artist whose music has true worldwide appeal, crossing genre, cultural and national boundaries.
The rapper was not able to attend the awards gala in New York City but his close friend, the CEO of Warner/Chappell Music Publishing, Jon Platt accepted the award on his behalf.
Other 2017 Inductees are Berry Gordy, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Robert Lamm, James Pankow & Peter Cetera (Chicago); Max Martin and Caroline Bienstock.
