An American tourist accused of stealing a North Korean propaganda banner has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour.

Otto Warmbier, a 21-year-old University of Virginia undergraduate student was arrested by North Korean authorities in January and at his trial this morning was charged with subversion.

Otto Warmbier admitted shortly after his arrest that he had indeed attempted to take the propaganda banner while he stayed at the Yanggakdo International Hotel.
