Major aspects of the sounds off this bring to mind DJ Xclusive’s “Jeje”, and following that we don’t know how to define this Chopstix production in terms of originality and all.
Yung L sings a catchy chorus here, complete with his signature pattern and street-influenced textures. This time though, he isn’t so Jamaican in his execution, which is a plus as it gives his music the much needed indigenous strain. And although “Shooga” hews a bit too close to the sounds of commercial music, it still passes for a good work.
In all, not to downplay Yung’s brilliance and creativity but we feel like he has so much more to offer than this. Still, it is dance-worthy what he does here. Cool.
