62% Nigerians without electricity, 90% lack cooking fuels – FG

The Federal Government on Tuesday said about 62 percent of citizens in Nigeria lacked access to electricity, while 90 percent had no access to current cooking fuels.

It, however, claimed that efforts were ongoing to communicate the situation by restricting the potential in the gas sector through the progress of critical infrastructures across the country.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, who divulged this during his address at the ongoing 2022 Nigeria Oil and Gas meeting in Abuja, said the government was also working hard to minimize gas flaring in Nigeria.

He explained, “Previous studies have exhibited Nigeria as an energy-poor country. 62 percent of Nigerians lack access to electricity and 90 percent lack access to new cooking fuels.”
