The organisers had promised a show to remember and boy, did they deliver!
Each performer on the night had a unique story to tell, and there was not a dull moment during the just concluded edition of #OneMicNaija tagged, ‘#SMWOneMicNaija’.
The show kicked off with performances by three showcase winners who had been lucky enough to get votes via social media. Bezalel, Francis tha Bond and OgheneMadonna strummed their guitars and thrilled the very appreciate audience comprising artistes like Teeto and Falz, bloggers like Olorisupergal and Sheifunmi, television personalities like Lamide Akintobi and more.
The first headliner to perform was Ese Peters and he spoke about his journey so far before performing ‘Grey and Old’ and the crowd favourite, ‘Omote’. Up next was the magical Temi Dollface whose set was easily, the most dramatic. Apart from her own songs, she also did an impromptu cover of ‘Caro’ which Wizkid danced along to. Wiz later tweeted, “Saw TemiDollface perform tonight and i have a big crush on her. She was amazing!”
Mosa performed “Why’d you lie” and “I’ll just say it/I love you”. His wife, who the song is about (I’ll just say it) was in the audience and it was an emotional performance, both for him and the audience. It could only be topped by a superlative set courtesy Efya who kicked off by declaring she wanted a Nigerian name but Temi and Tosin had been taken. The crowd shouted various options at her and she seemed to settle for Ajoke.
Reminisce, the alaga ibile, capped it all off with hits like, ‘Fantasi’, ‘Eleniyan’, ‘Daddy’ and ‘Kako bi Chicken’. Naeto C who came out to support was in the audience rapping along through out while Ember Creek erupted into song and dance as soon as his name was announced.
#SMWOneMicNaija was hosted by Kel and Kunle KB Bello and was supported by Top Radio 90.9, AbOriginal Music and YSG Hubs. YSG Hubs gave out prizes to the top three contestants during the audience freestyle. The next edition holds April.
