The Presidential Election Petitions Court on Wednesday affirmed the election of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court held that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, did not successfully prove the allegations against the election of Tinubu.

The court also expunged 37 exhibits tendered by the witnesses from the court’s records.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, leader of the five-man panel, said, “This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”

The court held that the PDP and Atiku failed to prove that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the election, that the election was not conducted in accordance with the law, or that Tinubu did not win the election by the majority of lawful votes cast.

The court also held that the PDP and Atiku failed to prove that Tinubu was involved in corrupt practices or that he committed any electoral offense.

The court’s ruling is a major setback for the PDP and Atiku, who had challenged the election results in court. The ruling also means that Tinubu will remain in office as President of Nigeria.
