Bucci Franklin is a rising star slowly making his mark in Nollywood with his impressive range and ability to breathe life into diverse roles. He first came into the limelight in the hit movie, The Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story and has turned a large part of the audience into fans with his impressive acting range.
He has featured in major films as early as 2010, however, many who are not conversant with Nollywood and its new actors might not find it easy to recognize. To make it easy, we put together five top movies and series you probably didn’t know he featured in.
The Hidden: Playing Kweku, Flo-Ade’s longest-serving associate and most trusted partner, the Rivers-born actor played his role as a supporting actor to a T in the Africa Magic original series, The Hidden.
With a new episode airing on Africa Magic Showcase every Sunday, the 13-part thriller depicts the life of a woman who has seen it all, a shadow of her former self, been through the furnace, lost her loved ones to the brutal dividends of a once thriving career, seeks redemption in being the haven for others while nursing her thirst for vengeance.
Kweku sees Flo (played by Iretiola Doyle) as a mother figure and a possible lover. He is her support system and doesn’t compromise her safety or that of the ladies under her protection.
Knockout Blessing: Before his popular role as Government, we got our first taste of Bucci playing a bad guy in the 2018 Nigerian action thriller film, Knockout Blessing. He plays a pimp who is ready to do anything to keep his “girls” from escaping his grasp and losing his source of income.
Directed by Dare Olaitan, the film revolves around a girl, Blessing, whose ambition is to achieve success in her dreams by eradicating poverty. However, she unexpectedly moved to the criminal underworld and gradually reached the Nigerian political system.
Far From Home: He gained a lot of recognition in his role as Government in the Netflix original, Far From Home. Though the villain, Government endeared many fans to him following his tormentor-protector relationship with Ishaya Bello.
Bambitious: Meet Mr Romantic with a sprinkle of bad boy. Bucci plays Frank, a lover boy who decides to blackmail his ex out of spite for leaving him for a rich man in the 2014 romantic drama.
Three Thieves: It’s not always a bad guy or lover boy for Bucci and his characters in different movies. Sometimes, it is fun and laughter as his character, Alhaji Change, does humorous gimmicks alongside many notable actors like Frank Donga, Shawn Faqua, Shaffy Bello, and Odunlade Adekola in the 2019 comedy, Three Thieves.
Due to a case of mistaken identity, three dissatisfied friends are contracted to commit a seemingly simple theft. Even worse, the man who originally asked to do the job is on the hunt for them.
Speaking of his current movies still showing, catch Bucci in a new episode of The Hidden every Sunday on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv ch. 151) at 8.30 p.m. You can also enjoy the show on the MyDStv app at no extra cost.
