ABUJA, May 28, 2023 – President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa arrived in the Federal Republic of Nigeria today, Sunday, May 28, 2023, through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. He is scheduled to attend the Inauguration of His Excellency President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, May 29, 2023.
The visit highlights the strong and strategic partnership between South Africa and Nigeria, aimed at fostering peace, stability, and economic development on the African continent.
During his stay in Abuja, President Ramaphosa will participate in the Inauguration Gala Dinner, hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari, the outgoing President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The dinner is held in honor of the Heads of State and Government attending the Inauguration ceremony.
President Ramaphosa is also expected to attend a Luncheon hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following his inauguration. The luncheon will gather Heads of State and Government, along with other distinguished guests.

South Africa and Nigeria share a common vision on various important issues, including political and economic integration in Africa, sustainable conflict resolution, and the reform of multilateral institutions such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Furthermore, both countries have been actively engaged in fostering economic cooperation, leading to increased trade and mutual investments. Together, South Africa and Nigeria account for approximately one-third of Africa’s economic output, with each contributing 60% – 70% of the economies in their respective sub-regions.
President Ramaphosa’s visit underscores the commitment to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation between South Africa and Nigeria, as they work together towards a prosperous and integrated Africa.
