Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is unarguably the best striker in the world at the moment. His path to this achievement was not a smooth one.

“Things were hard for me and my sisters. I had to sell water in the streets and traffic of Lagos just to survive”. Osimhen narrated his ordeal growing up in an interview with his club Napoli.

“Where I came from is a place where nothing is promised, no one will tell you they believe in you. I had to do all these things because I know football is the only hope I and my family had to survive” the Nigerian striker added.

Osimhen who lost his mother at a very tender age also had to watch his father struggle to make ends meet for the family.

After excelling at the 2015 U-17 World Cup with 10 goals and 2 assists, a performance which got him the golden boot and silver ball at the tournament. The youngster looked poised for greatness.

He signed a contract with Wolfsburg, but his time in Germany was marred by injury. He was immediately put up for sale by the club. He got rejected by two clubs after a tryout with these clubs.

Osimhen after losing his father in 2018 saw more reason to make his family proud. His form rapidly increased in Belgium at Charleroi before a move to play for Lille in France.

Napoli came after Osimhen in 2020 with a fee that made the Nigerian the highest-paid African in history.

Ever since joining Napoli, Osimhen has grown into the best striker in the world. The young boy from Lagos has suddenly become the champion of the world. He is poised at leading the club to its first Serie A title in a decade and has also led the club to its first appearance in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. His dream is to become African best player.
