German football club, VfL Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Nigerian youth prodigy Victor Osimhen, after he jetted off to Germany earlier this week on the club’s invitation.
The silver ball winner at last year’s U17 World Cup will join the club in January 2017 when he turns 18 years to sign a full professional contract in, line with FIFA regulations regarding minors.
VfL’s Director of Sport Klaus Allofs said in a statement: “We are delighted to welcome our first international cooperation partner, in the Ultimate Strikers Academy, here at VfL Wolfsburg. For talented youngsters such as Victor Osimhen, it is a major advantage to combine the games at home with the academy team, with knowledge of youth training and operational processes in European professional football.”
The deal will include Osimhen training at Wolfsburg as well as other players from Ultimate Strikers Academy to expose them to modern facilities and training methods.
“Through such co-operations, talented youngsters are far better prepared for the step into professional football, whilst at the same time, we can provide our own coaches and staff at the youth performance centre, as well as our U23 team, with the opportunity to look outside of the box and play a sustained role in assisting the development of football in Nigeria,” commented Olaf Rebbe, another director at the club.
