Tinubu calls for calm over new naira notes scarcity, fuel

Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, has urged Nigerians to remain calm as the government tries to resolve the fuel and naira note scarcity.

Tinubu expressed sympathy for the people, particularly the less fortunate, who have been affected by the Central Bank’s new naira policy and irregular petrol supply.

There has been a shortage of fuel and naira notes across the country, due to the CBN’s redesign policy of old notes (N200, N500, N1000) and the absence of naira in circulation.

The CBN extended its deadline for the naira swap from January 31 to February 10 after receiving complaints from Nigerians about the scarcity of new notes.

However, there is still a cash crunch in the country, causing protests in some areas. Tinubu considers the cash crunch and fuel scarcity as sabotage to prevent him from winning the February 25 election.

He praised the NNPC for the fuel relief in the Federal Capital Territory and asked the CBN to be flexible with the deadline for the transition to new naira notes.

Tinubu is distressed by the news of cash-strapped farmers having to sell their products cheaply and assured Nigerians that the challenges will soon be over.

He asked people to avoid anything that could cause unrest and blamed the opposition and enemies of democracy for trying to disrupt the election and create strife. He vowed to bring hope, security, and prosperity to Nigerians if elected.
