Nigerian super talented and ‘Johnny’ hit crooner, Yemi Alade rose to prominence when she after which she signed to Effyzzie Music Group after she won the Peak Talent Show in 2009.
Born in Abia State, the southeastern part of Nigeria, Alade pursued her musical ambitions while earning a degree at the University of Lagos. Her hit song in 2014, brought her to limelight and has since been consistent in her music career which has gained her prominence in the music industry.
With her style of music, there has been an intense conversation among Nigerians after claims that she might be the first Nigerian female to win a Grammy if she keeps up with her sound, which hence her being compared to Angelique Kidjo who is a three times Grammy winner.
In 2015, the Afropop singer won the MTV African Music Awards for Best female and also won it in 2016. She was nominated for Artiste of the Year in 2015, making her the first female to win the MAMAs for Best female consecutively twice and nominated for Artiste of the Year, hence she has been considered one of the biggest artists in Africa.
Using different African languages and attires in her songs and music videos, the 33-year-old is the second Nigerian and Afrobeats artist and the first female to hit 100 million views for a single video on YouTube after Davido.
She is acclaimed as “Mama Africa” for her versatility, as many considered her music has been of influence in many African countries and the world.
