A Nigerian lady identified by her Twitter handle as @dith_3008 has started a conversation online about Filipino and Lagos nannies.
The young lady said that many Nigerian employers who have Filipino nannies treat them better than they treat their Nigerian counterparts.
I see hiring Filipino nannies is d new status symbol for Lagos women. ?Many go on vacation with these nannies, pay them money they would never pay a Nigerian nanny & above all treat them with dignity & respect.
BLK folks rarely value each other but stay expecting others to.?

Using a personal experience as an example, @dith_3008 said she worked briefly with a Nigerian employer that preferred owing his Nigerian nannies than the non-Nigerians. She stated that he instructed her to pay the non-Nigerians first.
I worked briefly for a Nigerian employer as a teen & every pay period, he made us pay d non-Nigerian employees FIRST b4 the Nigerians.
He was okay with owing Nigerians but knew better than to owe other folks. It was not abt professionalism or whatever. They just weren’t priority

What visa did our immigration issue to them? That's where we should start asking questions. Immigration now has expartriate quota for nannies with the unemployement in the country. We really love ourselves. Everything is status symbol and show off.

Below are reactions from those who had a different opinion:
To be fair, there's a level of professionalism, versatility and trustworthiness that comes with these Filipino nannies.
I had a long discussion with a HNI on the matter years back. It's about value. It's about carving a niche. It's about culture.

Don't assume they are all treated with respect. You can't give what you don't have. Anyway, if they want Filipino, Egyptian or whatever nanny it's their money therefore their choice.

The Filipino nannies will never beat up your kids when you're not around, starve them or worse still plan with their frustrated Nigerian boyfriends to abduct them for selfish reasons.
