A Lagos High Court has directed the Registered Trustees of the University Of Lagos Alumni Association — Olorogun Dr. Sunny Kuku, Mr. Adebowale Thompson and Mr. John Momoh who are the first, second, third and fourth defendants respectively — to suspendany move to hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM)or election into offices of the university’s alumni association which was planned for 8th of July 2018 until the conclusion of the suit brought before the court against the defendants by Abdulateef Abdulsalam.
Mr. Abdulateef Abdulsalam asked the court to declare the Association’s 1989 constituition as the main legal instrument for running the association after what ensued in 2017 at the AGM and election for new members of the association, which led to chaos and uncertainty.
This was after the episode that happened in the AGM of the University’s Alumni Association in 2017, when they were only 100 printouts for an election that had more than 1000 pre-registered voters. The National Executive Committee was also dissolved before the elections ended in a stalemate, which has further created uncertainty for the alumni body.
