Burkina Faso Disbands Presidential Guard

Just days after interim President of Burkina Faso, Michael Kafando was reinstated, the Presidential guard has been disbanded.

Just over a week ago the elite Presidential guards staged a coup in the West African nation, arresting Michael Kafando as well as Isaac Zida as they seized control of the government.

The international community as well as the Burkinabe army helped to prevail on General Gilbert Diendere who was picked to head Burkina Faso after the coup to step down. Burkina Faso’s cabinet has dismissed the Minister of Security and has begun investigations to find out the ringleaders of the coup.

Burkina Faso’s attorney general has announced a decision to freeze the assets of those involved in the coup.
